Wyoming is reliably Republican, delivering more than 67% of the vote to Trump in 2016. The state last elected a Democrat to the Senate in 1970, and Lummis should glide to victory in November. Her presumed ascension was warmly greeted by Republican insiders in Washington, including among elements of the party establishment and the conservative activist wing.
“Senate Republicans are interested in adding to their growing number of strong female leaders,” added a GOP strategist with establishment ties. “Rep. Lummis is someone who would no doubt contribute immediately.”
