Cynthia Lummis is Wyoming through and through. She’s tough, tested, effective, and true to the place her family has called home for four generations.
Born on a cattle ranch in Laramie County, Cynthia has spent her career protecting Wyoming values. From the halls of the Wyoming House to the halls of the U.S. Senate, Cynthia’s time in public service has always been focused on fighting for Wyoming’s unlimited future.
As a United States Senator, Cynthia has fought to secure our borders, protect our Second Amendment rights, and create good-paying jobs across the Cowboy State.
Cynthia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008, where she quickly earned a reputation as a no-nonsense conservative and principled policymaker. During her time in the U.S. House, she garnered an ‘A+’ rating from the National Rifle Association and a 100% voting record with National Right to Life. Her pro-Wyoming voting record earned her recognition as the legislator who opposed President Obama’s radical liberal agenda more often than any other federal elected official.
Cynthia was also a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, a group consisting of the most unflinching conservative Members of the House of Representatives. She fought throughout her tenure in Congress to rein in spending and reduce the federal deficit.
In 2016, Cynthia did something not often done by politicians - she retired from the U.S. House of Representatives and instead returned to live and work in Wyoming.
With an endorsement from President Donald J. Trump in 2020 and a renewed passion for public service, Cynthia was elected to represent Wyoming in the U.S. Senate.
In the Senate, Cynthia has been a leader on Western issues. As chair of the Senate Western Caucus, she has reminded eastern lawmakers just how invasive the federal government is into the lives and businesses of westerners. A member of the conservative Senate Steering Committee, she has fought back against the extreme policies of the Biden era.
Cynthia is a dedicated champion of Wyoming’s mineral and energy resources.
In Washington, Cynthia has fought off attacks from left-wing environmentalists while defending our land and advocating for market opportunities both at home and abroad.
The Biden era of attacking Western energy production and pushing a shortsighted, anti-energy agenda is over. Cynthia is focused on advancing policies that benefit a pro-Wyoming energy approach, especially supporting our baseload energy sources of coal, oil, gas, and uranium. These are so critical to our nation’s security and economic prosperity.
Cynthia has worked to keep public lands open to the public and available for multiple use.
While far-left environmental groups with no connection to Wyoming push to lock up public lands and prevent multiple-use management, Cynthia has worked with her colleagues in the Senate Western Caucus to bolster multiple-use policies and block harmful Resource Management Plans (RMP).
Cynthia is all Wyoming, all the time.
Prior to serving in Congress, Cynthia spent eight years as Wyoming State Treasurer and 14 years as a member of the Wyoming State House and Senate. Cynthia also worked as general counsel to Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer and Director of the Office of State Lands and Investments, as well as a law clerk at the Wyoming Supreme Court.
Cynthia lives in Laramie County and is a proud three-time graduate of the University of Wyoming in animal science, biology, and law. Cynthia and her late-husband, Al Wiederspahn, have one daughter, Annaliese, son-in-law Will Cole and three grandkids.
